British driver Zak Taylor will move up to the GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC in 2022, and will complete Fortec Motorsport’s line-up alongside Scandinavian duo Mikkel Grundtvig and Joel Granfors.
The 19-year-old moves to GB3 after a promising first year of single-seater racing in British F4 last year, which saw him claim a victory at Brands Hatch and additional podiums at Thruxton, Snetterton, Knockhill and Donington Park.
Taylor’s single-seater debut followed two productive years in the Ginetta Junior Championship, starting with a partial campaign in 2019 after his GCSEs were completed, before attending six of the eight events in 2020, where he stood on the podium an impressive seven times.
His karting career commenced in 2016 in Junior TKM and the British Schools Karting Championship. The following season he was sixth in the Super One National Junior TKM Championship, as well as winning the PF International Junior Winter Series.
Following several days of testing in the older-specification GB3 car, Taylor is now gearing up for a maiden campaign in Britain’s premier single-seater category with regular winners Fortec Motorsports.
Taylor commented: “I am really looking forward to competing in GB3 with Fortec for the 2022 season. After looking around their facilities and completing a test it was clear that they are the right team for me to step up from F4 to GB3. I am excited to get started with such a well-established team and I hope to add to their success in my maiden campaign”.
Fortec Motorsports’ Oliver Dutton said: “We raced against Zak last year and it was clear to see that he has very high potential. His performance in testing with us has confirmed that, and we’re very pleased that the opportunity presented itself for us to work with him in GB3 this year. Between now and the start of the season we’ll have a busy testing programme with the new car to give him as much seat time as possible, so he can challenge at the front of the grid.”
