Fortec Motorsports made an impressive start to its campaign in the Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by the FIA, as Henry Joslyn secured a remarkable double pole position.
Making his series debut, the youngster was enthusiastic about the strong beginning, saying: “Getting two pole positions was a perfect start to the championship. It was nice to know we have the pace going forwards.”
Henry made a good start in the opening race, maintaining his lead initially before coming under pressure and slipping to second. Following a Safety Car period, he was side-by-side with a rival into the final chicane but unfortunately ended up in the barriers. “I tried to leave room when someone went inside me,” he said. “But in doing so, I went on the kerb, and that kerb then put me in the wall and ended my race.”
Race two, held on a bright and sunny Sunday morning, featured a reversed grid for the top 12, with Henry starting 12th. Unfortunately, he suffered a puncture on the opening lap and, after a visit to the pits, was forced to retire the car a little later. “We had the puncture, and being a lap down, we decided to save the tyre for the final race,” he explained.
Back on pole position for race three, Henry was edged off the line before battling hard for third place, ultimately having to yield on the second lap. “I had lots of wheelspin at the start, which dropped me back to P4. After that, it became difficult to stay within track limits when I was in the dirty air, and I picked up a penalty,” he said afterwards.
Henry and the team will return to action in just a few days’ time, as the series moves on to the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit from 1–3 May. “We definitely have the pace to bring the car over the line first, and I am hopeful we can do that next week at Silverstone.”
