• Fortec squad raring to go for Easter weekend triple header
  • GB3 double winner Mikkel Grundtvig returns for second season
  • Rookies Zak Taylor and Joel Granfors step up for GB3 debuts

Fortec Motorsport kick off their latest assault on the GB3 Championship with a triple-header at Oulton Park over the Easter Weekend (16-18 April) and three determined drivers looking to battle for silverware in the 2022 season opener.

The Daventry-based team head to the 2.69-mile International circuit in Cheshire ready to make a positive start to what will be their seventh full season in the GB3 Championship (formerly BRDC British Formula 3).

Fresh from a competitive campaign last year that featured five race victories, including one at the same Oulton Park circuit, the team bring in two new young chargers alongside a returning Mikkel Grundtvig to head their attack in 2022.

Denmark’s Grundtvig helped himself to two of those five wins – both being at Donington Park – last year, and will hope his experience gained will stand him in good stead ahead of a second campaign in Fortec Motorsport colours for the 2020 Danish Endurance champion.

Partnering the 18-year-old will be the team’s youngster charger, Joel Granfors. The 16-year-old from Sweden was a hot property in British F4 last year with one victory to his name for the Fortec squad on his way to fourth in the championship, and will now graduate to GB3 with the team for 2022.

Filling the team’s third car will be another series rookie in Zak Taylor, who goes from Fortec rival to team player this season after claiming one victory in F4 last year. The 19-year-old from the Cotswolds completes an exciting line-up for the season, which will be contested over 24 races across eight weekends.

The first three rounds will take place over the Easter weekend at Oulton Park, with testing being followed up on Saturday morning by qualifying at 11:05. Race one is later that day at 14:45, before action then shifts to Monday with two races at 12:35 and 15:25 respectively, the latter of those featuring a full reverse grid.

All three races will be broadcast live in full and free-to-air online at GB3’s official website and YouTube channel, and you can follow Fortec Motorsport on social media for further updates.

Oliver Dutton, Team Manager said:

“We’re looking forward to starting our seventh season in the series and intend to make a competitive start this weekend. It will be a close season with a lot of new and graduating drivers coming into the championship, but we feel we can compete with them thanks to a strong and exciting line-up of young drivers. We won here last year, so let’s try to recreate that once again.”

“I am really looking forward to competing in GB3 with Fortec for the 2022 season. After looking around their facilities and completing a test it was clear that they are the right team for me to step up from F4 to GB3. I am excited to get started with such a well-established team and I hope to add to their success in my maiden campaign.”

#43 Mikkel Grundtvig

“2021 was a crazy year in all aspects but the most I’ve learned in my career so far. I will take all my experiences with me and even more for this season. I’m sure we will have a very successful year together in the new GB3 car and I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel with Fortec Motorsport.”

#50 Joel Granfors

“I’m thrilled to be stepping up to GB3 this year. It’s been a very interesting winter in many ways since I first tested the car, and we now feel confident that we’ve got the best possible package in place with Fortec to go and fight for the championship. We learned a lot in F4 last year and I’m very, very excited to build on that in 2022. I can’t wait to get started!”
