• Grundtvig makes history with final win for first-generation GB3 car.
  • Faria shows overtaking prowess, Coseteng impresses on debut outing.
  • Daventry team secure third in inaugural Teams’ Championship at Donington Park.

Fortec Motorsport wrote another chapter in the history books with the final race victory of the current GB3 Championship era at Donington Park, Leicestershire last weekend (16-17 October).

The Daventry-based outfit made the short trip to the 2.4-mile East Midlands venue to bring down the curtain on another successful season in the UK’s premier tier of single-seater competition, including three race victories and a further 14 podium finishes.

Brazilian rising star Roberto Faria led the team’s charge after a tricky qualifying performance, with team-mates Mikkel Grundtvig and newcomer Eduardo Coseteng keeping close company behind.

The trio successfully navigated two action-packed races to kick off the weekend with a clean sweep of points-scoring finishes – six from a possible six – before taking center stage in the season-concluding race on Sunday.

Starting from pole position, Grundtvig made a solid getaway to retain top spot, and from thereon in he was able to keep the second-placed car of Fores at bay to take the chequered flag and secure victory in the final race for the first-generation car.

Faria finished just shy of a podium finish after climbing through the field, making an astonishing eleven passes en route to fourth spot. Coseteng ended the weekend on a similarly high note, claiming a best result of 12th from his debut outing in the category.

Fortec were also able to cement third position outright in the Teams’ Championship, giving the team a platform on which to build next season.

Oliver Dutton, Team Manager said:

“It wasn’t the easiest weekend to end on, but we’re delighted to bring down the curtain on another season with a race victory.

“Mikkel did superbly to lead the race from lights-to-flag, and it’s a fantastic springboard for him heading into next season. Roberto and Eduardo’s progress was equally superb to watch, we’re very proud of how all three performed in tricky circumstances.

“To finish the season in the top three among the teams is also a big motivator, but of course our ambition is to go two better next time out and secure the title.

“Lastly, a huge thanks to everybody involved in our GB3 Championship effort this season.”

Roberto Faria (#7) said:

“There are plenty of positives to take away from Donington Park, not least achieving a top-five position in the final championship standings.

“It was fantastic to have the car underneath me in the final race to attack and make up plenty of positions. We definitely ended on a high note and reminded everybody what we are capable of.

“A huge thanks to the entire team for all their hard work and support over the season.”

Eduardo Coseteng (#16) said:

“It was a very positive weekend in terms of my development as a driver. To finish all three races in the points and be on the pace with the competition despite fewer laps in the car is something to be satisfied with.

“It’s given me plenty of good experience. Thanks to the team at Fortec Motorsport for their support and guidance across the weekend.”

Mikkel Grundtvig (#43) said:

“Victory in the final race of the season was a brilliant way to end the year. It’s been an incredible journey, with plenty of ups and downs, but together with the fantastic team behind me, we have delivered on our expectations.

“Thanks to Fortec Motorsport for all their hard work, it’s massively appreciated. And to my amazing sponsors, who have supported and believed in me. It means everything.”
