- Joel Granfors now leads championship after stunning Silverstone showing
- Daventry team pushing to gain ground in Teams’ Championship fight
- Mikkel Grundtvig hopeful of adding to team’s four wins
Fortec Motorsport enter the penultimate GB3 Championship meeting of the season with their heads held high as they aim to extend their newfound championship lead at Brands Hatch GP circuit on 10/11 September.
The Daventry-based squad take to the popular 2.30-mile Kent circuit for the latest three races of the GB3 Championship, holding the bragging rights of an 11.5-point lead in the Drivers’ standings.
A second victory of the season in the most recent event at Silverstone meant that Joel Granfors overturned the deficit in the title chase to his main rival Luke Browning, putting the Fortec Motorsport star into the series lead in his rookie campaign. 10 podiums have already gone the way of Fortec’s Swedish teenager, who finished fourth at Brands Hatch in British F4 with the squad last year.
As well as holding the tally for most podiums this season, Granfors has made a habit of gaining vital points in the reverse grid races – gaining the most places with 51 spots gained in total. Granfors will spearhead a two-car assault for Fortec at the high-speed circuit in Kent, with Mikkel Grundtvig hopeful of adding to his two fantastic triumphs at Oulton Park and Snetterton to climb the table.
Brands Hatch GP circuit has delivered success in the past for Fortec Motorsport in the championship, most recently with Johnathan Hoggard from pole position back in 2019. Fortec Motorsport sit third in the Teams’ Championship with only a 12.5-point gap to close in order to jump up to second spot in the table, with 14 podium finishes to their name already over the 2022 season.
The seventh meeting again features three sprint races, with qualifying returning to Saturday morning at 11:35 to decide the grid before race one 16:55. Sunday sees two races which kick off at 10:25 and 16:20, with race three as always featuring a reversed grid from qualifying.
All three races will once again be streamed online and free to watch on MSV TV’s YouTube page with live timing by TSL Timing alongside it. You can also keep up to date as ever through Fortec Motorsport’s social media channels.
Oliver Dutton, Team Manager said:
“Silverstone was a really important weekend for us. We were trailing heading into it and then left with the points lead and a bundle of confidence going into these last two meetings. It’ll be another very close weekend I’m sure but we’ll be in the mix for race victories again if we can get out there and hit the ground running early doors.”
#43 Mikkel Grundtvig
“Silverstone was a tough weekend for me, but now we head to Brands Hatch which will give me a new opportunity and I hope I can take it. It’s a fast circuit and quite narrow so it can be tougher to overtake. I’ll have my eyes set on the podium as always.”
#50 Joel Granfors
“That was an extremely important weekend for us in championship terms at Silverstone. I knew I needed to deliver there, so it will be the same here at Brands Hatch. If we qualify well, then it sets us up for the best possible weekend. We’ll keep fighting until the end for this championship.”
