• Joel Granfors sits second in GB3 Championship after five meetings
  • Taylor hoping to kick on after maiden podium for Daventry squad
  • Grundtvig looking to return to winning form in Northampton

Fortec Motorsport return to the UK for the latest trio of GB3 Championship races this weekend (30/31 July), making a second trip of the 2022 season to Silverstone GP circuit.

The Daventry-based squad kept up the pressure in the championship fight with a brace of podium finishes at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, with a gap of 30.5 points separating their highest-placed driver from the top spot in the table.

Joel Granfors remains the driver giving chase, sitting second in the points after a hard-fought second place finish in the Ardennes. The super Swede has now claimed seven of the team’s 11 podium finishes, including one win at the previous visit to Silverstone back in May.

That particular weekend was one to remember for the squad, with pole position going the way of Fortec and Granfors before a lights-to-flag success in the rookie’s fourth ever GB3 race.

The team also have a further two wins in their pocket this season thanks to Mikkel Grundtvig. The Dane was out of luck in the most recent round at Spa, but will utilise his additional experience in the new Tatuus MSV-022 chassis to fight his way up the order to earn more vital points for the team.

Fortec’s third driver Zak Taylor meanwhile comes off the back of his best result of the season. Having battled hard for the lead and a potential victory in Belgium, the former British F4 racer grabbed third place in a shortened race three for his maiden piece of silverware ahead of the sixth meeting of the season at Silverstone

Silverstone again features three sprint races, with qualifying returning to Saturday morning at 10:20 to decide the grid before race one at 14:15. Sunday sees two races which kick off at 9:35 and 15:00, with race three as always featuring a reversed grid from qualifying.

All three races will once again be streamed online and free to watch on MSV TV’s YouTube page with live timing by TSL Timing alongside it. You can also keep up to date as ever through Fortec Motorsport’s social media channels.

Oliver Dutton, Team Manager said:

“We know that we can win here as we’ve done it already this season, so that’s something we’ve got to judge ourselves against and hope we can emulate this weekend. All three drivers now have a weekend of racing at Silverstone in the new GB3 car under their belts, so it’ll be about getting a good qualifying and then hooking it up for the rest of the weekend.”

#21 Zak Taylor

“Last time out we finished well and got a top three, so this time I hope I can start well and come out fighting again. The team won here last time out, so we know what we can do. I’m confident in them.”

#43 Mikkel Grundtvig

“After last weekend, we’ll reset and go again at Silverstone. I tried a different strategy last time out and we started to show some promising signs of speed, so I will go there and fight as always, and hopefully we can come away with a trophy.”

#50 Joel Granfors

“We were lacking a few tenths to Luke at Spa, but we had everyone else pretty much under control. Obviously last time at Silverstone we got the pole position and my first win there and the car felt really good. We’ve shown that we have the pace, so I hope for more of the same this time.”
